Karl Baker is a leading satellite industry technical expert. He has extensive experience leading multi-organizational and interdisciplinary teams to achieve focused, value-added results. He founded Summit Space Corporation in 2014 after nearly 30 years of experience in the satellite industry. Karl has direct experience designing and building flight hardware for over 25 satellites. He led over 60 commercial satellite failure investigations and supported, as an expert witness, four of the industry’s largest litigation and bankruptcy cases. As the President of Summit Space Corporation, Karl works closely with the satellite finance community leading some of the industry’s largest due diligence assessments. He leads satellite acquisitions for operators. He provides large investment banks with management/monitoring assistance. Karl also support law firms on space related matters.

Dynatherm Corporation – Program Manager January 1999 – March 2001 (2 years 3 months) Baltimore, Maryland Area Dynatherm Corporation, a subsidiary of Pressure Systems Incorporated, was a leading supplier of advanced spacecraft thermal control hardware to industry and government. Swales Aerospace purchased Dynatherm in 2001. As program manager, provided technical direction as well financial management using the Earned Value system. Built deployable radiator thermal systems for many early Hughes (now Boeing Space Systems) 702 spacecraft, including XM Radio, Thuraya, PanAmSat and ANIK F1. Built heat pipes for spacecraft including Orbital’s first GEO STAR, several Astrium Hotbirds, Astrium NileSat, Ball, NEC ALOS, NASA’s International Space Station and more. NASA – Program Manager and Engineer December 1987 – January 1999 (11 years 2 months) Cleveland, Ohio Area Developed advanced thermal systems and electronic packaging technology at NASA. Built and tested spacecraft thermal control hardware. Served on several evaluation boards for government procurements and managed part of NASA’s Small Business Innovative Research program.
